Dmitri Tymoczko: ‘5x5’ + Max Vinetz: ‘felt felt felt felt’

Princeton University faculty composer Dmitri Tymoczko’s new 25-minute work, ‘5x5’, written for solo piano and performed by Amy Yang, is a set of five piano pieces that represents the composer’s renewed interest in repetition and in trying to draw on elements of the classical tradition. Graduate student composer Max Vinetz’s new work ‘felt felt felt felt’ is an album-length saxophone quartet commissioned by the Aruna Quartet that draws on the physical construction and sound-production methods of the saxophone, the abstraction of pop style melody and song structure, and an exploration of the quartet’s technique toward new performance.
